The Energy Egg (TM)

The Energy Egg reduces the power consumption of the home and work environment, cutting both carbon emissions and energy bills. The Energy Egg is the first product to switch off appliances when you forget. The Energy Egg can save up to $340 on domestic energy bills, plus significantly more in an office setting.
The Energy Egg reliably detects when a room is vacant for a period of time and then wirelessly switches off devices via a purpose-built plug socket e.g. when a room is empty for 5 or more minutes appliances are automatically switched off. The Energy Egg uses existing technology, similar to that of modern alarm systems, in a unique way i.e. it detects accurately when a room is empty. It can be used to manage all your electricals in an unobtrusive manner without compromising the benefits of modern appliances.
The unique capacity to switch off devices accidently left on AND those left in standby, generates savings beyond the claims of competitors. As the only product which can automatically switch off devices with no input from the user, the Energy Egg will make sure you never leave your appliances on when you're not at home or when you go to bed. Never again will you forget to turn off your iron, t.v. or DVD player because the Energy Egg does it for you.
It has the following unique features:
1. Saves money - It automatically switches off appliances in standby mode AND powered but unused slashing electricity bills.
2. Saves energy - It can work with all appliances including those that don’t have a standby mode e.g. an electric heater.
3. Saves time - There is no user input required to switch appliances off i.e. no hunting for a remote control.
4. Saves lives - The Energy Egg can eliminate electrical fires due to an iron or hair straighteners being left on accidently.
The Energy Egg has secured interest from a major UK retailer, R&D grant funding from Scottish Enterprise , development funding from the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA), Strathclyde University and the Electronic Design Technology Centre(EDTC). The Energy Egg was a finalist for the John Logie Baird award, the Biggart Baillie Innovation award and is a NESTA award winner.
